About Captains Villa

Welcome to Captains Villa

We have history at heart!

Captains Villa offers a green oasis with beautiful views over the lake. These views were already enjoyed by the captain of the Guendelon vessel. He became famous for winning the First Navel Battle of World War 1 during a rather unconventional surprise attack... The gun he used can still be seen next to the Queen Victoria Clocktower opposite our gate. The pittoresque tower was built in her honour when she visited then Nyassaland. Find out more in the museum next door or during our guided tours!

Our main building is of historical value as it dates back to the 1890s. Then, the water levels of the Lake were different and Mangochi was called Fort Johnstone. We are proud that we could save the building before it got lost to decay. No wonder our rooms come in unique shapes and sizes. The renovations and extensions created fro our visitors all the modern comfort needed.Thank you for helping us to keep history alive!

When you arrive you will see that we take pride not only in our heritage but also in promoting Malawian products (food, furniture, deco, farmers and arts markets, ...), while providing you with an experience of global standards.

Our friendly team is dedicated to making your stay with us a memorable one. We are committed to sustainability and local empowerment and believe in healthy forms of entertainment.
